On January 8, 2013, Yantian International Container Terminal ushered in the birth of 100 million TEUs. Yantian International has set a new record of port throughput of 100 million TEUs in the shortest time in the history of world port development after 18 and a half years. This is Yantian International's historic milestone once again after becoming the world's first container terminal with an annual throughput exceeding 10 million TEUs in 2007. After more than ten years of struggle, Yantian Port has rapidly grown from a deserted beach to one of the busiest container ports in the world, becoming a bright business card for Shenzhen.
About 200 guests including the relevant leaders of Shenzhen Municipal Government and relevant departments, various port units, the government of Yantian District, and Hutchison Huangpu Port Group, Yantian Port Group, Hutchison Port Trust, Yantian International, major shipping companies, and cargo owners attended the event. Together witnessed the birth of the 100 millionth TEU of Yantian International. With the current economic environment gradually stabilizing, Yantian International ’s cumulative throughput exceeded 100 million TEUs, sending a positive signal to the port industry. It is hoped that the Shenzhen port logistics industry will gather confidence, meet challenges and create new achievements.

Since the opening of the port in 1994, Yantian International has actively explored terminal development, customs reform, sea-rail transportation, and technological innovation, and is committed to providing world-class container terminal services to the shipping industry and importers and exporters. At present, 100% of super-large ships carrying more than 10,000 TEUs call at Yantian.

Yantian International now uses 150 electric-powered gantry cranes and 280 natural gas (LNG) trailers. It is the first batch of wharfs in China to use electric gantry cranes and natural gas trailers.
